Translate a color value for a website or design field, then check the actual appearance and text contrast.
Your designer supplies a HEX color, but a form asks for RGB. A color converter helps express the same basic color value in another notation. It does not decide whether that color is suitable for every part of the interface.
Use a known example to understand the fields
For ordinary six-digit RGB hex notation, #336699 corresponds to red 51, green 102 and blue 153. The pairs of hexadecimal digits represent the three channels.
Copy the exact value supplied by your design source. Do not sample a compressed screenshot if you already have the original specification; the sampled color may differ.
Convert and verify
- Open the color converter.
- Enter the supported source notation.
- Inspect the equivalent values provided.
- Paste the required notation into the destination field.
- Preview the result in the actual page or design.
Check whether the destination expects a leading hash, separate channel values or a complete CSS expression. Opacity is another property to consider; do not assume every field supports it in the same way.
Color consistency is not the only check
A brand color used for a large decorative shape may be unsuitable for small text on a particular background. Test readability in the actual combination. A converter supplies values, not an accessibility verdict.
For a dark bio page, inspect buttons, link text and hover states rather than checking only the main background. The same nominal value can feel different beside surrounding colors.
Keep a small record of approved values so future edits do not drift between slightly different shades.
